The Daughters of Charity regret that the Archives at Saint Joseph’s Provincial House (ASJPH) are temporarily closed to the public for an extended period of time during 2008. We are in the midst of reviewing and updating collection inventories of archival holdings, computerizing finding aids, and simultaneously doing research for projects related to the upcoming Bicentennial of the foundation of the Sisters of Charity by Elizabeth Ann Seton.

For General Historical Inquiries
The staff of the Daughters of Charity Archives is unable to respond to the extensive number of historical inquiries that are received. Given the constraints of time and resources, it is necessary to that all inquiries be sent in writing. These will be handled in order of receipt, according to staff availability, and ASJPH Policy and Procedures.
For Genealogical Inquiries
We are unable to respond to the vast number of inquiries regarding family genealogy. We require that all genealogical questions be submitted in writing. These will be handled in order of receipt, according to staff availability, and ASJPH Policy and Procedures.
ASJPH Policy and Procedures
After receipt of a written request (by fax, e-mail, or surface mail) an initial payment of $25 is required for any search conducted by staff requiring up to thirty minutes. For searches over thirty minutes, the cost is $50 for one hour maximum. Additional charges may apply depending on the complexity of the question, the amount of staff time required, plus any costs incurred for postage, photography, photocopies, etc. In some cases, complex questions may necessitate the services of a professional researcher. In such cases, referral information will be provided.
